This fly, I found yesterday on Cirsium vulgare in my garden in Dortmund West Germany.

Which fly is it? And what are the two "things" at the back?

Eversible pleural sacs? These apparently may be for sensory or courtship purposes? http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=25094&pid=111665#post_111665
