I snapped this because I thought at first it was a Cheilosia hoverfly – a closer inspection shows it is clearly not. The darkening of the leading edge of the wing is distinctive. Anyone supply a genus or species? Ben Cruachan, Argyll, Scotland, Jun 20 2012

Most probably Phorbia, Anthomyiidae

I was thinking this was a small Tachinid?

Wing venation is off for virtually all tachinids. The ones that do have a similar wing venation look different otherwise.

OK - Whatever this is - I would be interested to know too - as I netted some of these, or something very close, on Sunday. But they are still on the setting board.
