Photos taken in Reading, UK, on 2012-05-11

I initially assumed this was Muscidae but then I noticed the relatively sharp bend in the M vein and now I think it is a Melinda sp (Calliphoridae).

Is this correct?

Yes, I'd think it is a male Melinda

the sharp bend in the M vein is not typical just of Melinda .... You should check the lower calypters if they are covered with dark hairs or not. If there are dark hairs then it is a Calliphora. On your picture one might assume that there are hairs. Maybe you have the original photo on which this might be better visible.

Thank you Theo and tyrolean. Unfortunately the original photos are not much clearer.
