these flies seem very interested in the bee hotel in my London garden, they hang around and often enter the cavities; are they a threat to the larvae of the bees? They are bold flies and not unduly alarmed by the approach of my lens.

Drosophilidae,
Cacoxenus indagator. There is no proof they attack the larvae and probably are commensals. However, in case of food shortage (a mother bee not enclosing ample quantities of food for her offspring or too many drosophilid larvae) bee larvae may starve.
