The other day I was photographing a specimen of Siphona while it was grooming and suddenly it rotated its head and started licking its back with the proboscis!! I’ve never seen a fly doing that. Is that normal in Siphona?

Wow - great shot - I have never seen it before either and I'd be very surprised if there are similar photos out there :D

I guess if you have an itchy back and your mouth looks like a back-scratcher then ...
