Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Visit on Cornus mas

I took some photos of this gorgeous flowers and at home I saw, that there are some visitors on the blossom. I took the pic today in Bavaria. One blossom has a diameter of about 2-3 mm

Your visitor is a non-biting midge (Chironomidae).

Probably Orthocladiinae, the common subfamily in early spring. As far as I know Chironomidae have no flower preferences, but there has been little study. For many years they were thought not to feed as adults.
