Hello,

An idea for this big (and dead ...) chironomidae ?

Cuise La Motte (60350- France) - 15-03-2012 - 22h - 9,5 mm.

Many thanks and good weekend.

Michel

Chironomini. The tail is at a bad angle. If the tip of the abdomen were not bent down the angle would be good. Can you add a dorsal view of the tip of the abdomen?

It's probably near Chironomus.

That's a ventral shot?

I'm not sure what I'm seeing. The thin, curved appendages resemble some Dicrotendipes but the rest doesn't match.

A dorsal shot, but not very good quality ...

Now it looks more like Chironomus (Chironomus). There are three layers of appendages inside the outer claspers -- two paired and one median -- and any or all of them might be crucial for ID.
