A one-handed photograph. This fly bit and left a tiny red mark.

Naranjo, Costa Rica, 8 March 2012, near a stream and pond, also forest and fields nearby. Length 3.9 mm to apex of wings.

Probably Simulium (Psilopelmia), a regionally common subgenus with several brightly colored man-eaters.
