A rather dully coloured fly from last year. I think it's a tipulid, but my history should indicate that this doesn't mean much...
Bosham, West Sussex.
Probably about 10mm, excluding legs.

Tipulidae sensu lato. Because you are in Europe, the continent of splitters, it is probably Limoniidae instead. Note the short palps and large number of antenna segments.

Thanks, I'll split its taxonomy to match its geography. And revel in the knowledge that if I was elsewhere, I might have been right...
