Although this one isn't a great image (and none of the ones of this were) I kept it because I hadn't expected to see anything flying around at the time of year (I certainly wouldn't have left the house if I had the option).

Flint shingle at upper edge of saltmarsh,

Bosham, West Sussex.

i would guess it's a Scatophaga because the tick carpet of golden hairs on pleura

No, it isn't a Coelopa, it is probably Scathophaga litorea.

Thank you! Will update title and add images (with cautionary note) to the S. litorea folder.

I must go through gallery and check that I'm not harbouring any further un-illustrated images soon...
