Hello,

I am not fully sure here with the family. This ~9mm fly is from last april from a valley in south east Sicily. Can the genus or the species be identified?

Thanks,
Michael

Empididae is correct, the family Hybotitdae is similar and i would say that the division between Empididae and Hybotidae is dubious.
There are 3 huge genera and many small genera i Empididae.
The huge ones are Empis, Hilaria and Rhampomyia. Empis and Hilare has a fork in vein R4+5 that is missing in Rhampomyia so i think it is Rhamphmyia

Actually, I think the fork *is* present and that would make it empis, but from this single image I cannot even say which subgenus.
