Taken in the outskirts of Madrid, near mediterranean vegetation on the 18th February 2012. Thanks in advance for any help! ;)
About 7-8 mm long, biggish for what I usually see in
Bibio sp. around here.

Can it be
Bibio marci? I can provide more detail if necessary. It was pretty cooperative :)

B. marci should be all black. Yours has red spurs and seems to have fair hairs on the thorax. The dark wing venation is also not typical for
B. marci. Perhaps this (
http://www.dipter...d_id=45356) is the female to your male? Theo Zeegers might know the species!

Thanks so much, Sundew!! Yes, the reddish spurs drove my attention but I didn't know if they could be an ID tip. Very interesting the female found by Manuel. Hope Theo finds these threads and can confirm it or tell us what it is :)

Spain is outside my region of competence.
It is a Bibio but the wing venation does not agree with the marci/hortulanus - group.
