Hi,
My first post so be gentle with me :)
I pulled this fly out of a RIS light trap catch in Ash woodland with a Holly understory in early February.
I have been told it appears to be a
Suilla species, which. with the presence of a humeral seta would make it
atricornis, however browising this site I found reference to
Tephrochlamys rufiventris which, to me, looks more likely.
I have further photos if necessary.

According to Alan Stubbs' test key there are only 3 UK species, of which only one (rotundicornis) has a wholly grey thorax as this specimen has. However that species apparently has partly orange antennae while the antennae on this specimen are wholly black.
If you need photos other than the ones that Paul has linked to above (thanks Paul) I can provide them. Be aware that the facial bristles are very badly damaged.
