A previously uploaded fly turned out to be Bengalia, which I thought this one might also be. As evidenced by my previous posts, my thinking that two flies are related is not much to go by, so it seems inevitable that I should offer it up for someone to point me, if not in the right direction, at least back out of the wrong one.
Place: Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia.
Habitat: concrete wall bordering citrus orchard.
Date: 25 August 2011.
size: perhaos 10-11mm. Biggish housefly sized.

Yes, should be
Bengalia. Look out for
Cordylobia, in more ways than one, which looks similar but has a very different life history:)

I'm intrigued - as Bengalia's thieving ways are bizarre enough, what does Cordylobia do for a living?
EDIT - hang on, google informs me that Cordylobia parasitises mammals - it wouldn't be the Putse, would it? If it is, I've met and raised as many as I want to.
