Place: Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia.
Date: 10 September 2011.
Habitat: damp earth under mature hedgerow, within ornamental garden.

Size: Probably 5-6mm.

It is one of the Anthomyia look-alikes, but is actually a muscid; note the large lower squamae, and the shape of the head. Also the shape of the black marks on the abdomen are different from Anthomyia. Sorry I can't say what the Muscid genus is, but it is many years since I looked at muscids.

It is Muscidae, probably Limnophora
