Hi,

Could this one be Tachina magnicornis? I met it in the local nature reserve, Gent, Belgium on 10th August 2010

Not really very close - it's Eriothrix rufomaculata ;)

No problem - they are probably the commonest tachinids here and have many distinctive characteristics - red abdominal side patches, shaded wings, silvery face, projecting mouth edge, petiole on the median wing vein etc :)

Thanks for the extra info Chris! next time I meet it I will sure recognize it. It might be the commenest Tachinid in England, but for me in Belgium it was the first time!;)
