Thread subject: Diptera.info :: ID, please. Fly ONE. Thaumatomyia? UNABLE TO ID, but thanks for trying!

I have pictures of two flies that look very similar, but the stripes on their backs are slightly different.

I think they're both Thaumatomyia (wow, I've just learnt how to use the Italics thingy...), but that's as far as I've got.

I didn't see any swarms.

Garden, summer, Mid-Essex.

The reflection of the scutellum would suggest it is flattened and that might well make it a Thaumatomyia.

I've only just come across it, sorry!

I'll have a look at my other pics of this fly and see if they show the scutellum any better, but it's not likely... I've only got a diddy compact camera.
