Location: Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia.
Habitat: birdbath on ornamental lawn surrounded by coniferous hedge.
Date: 07.10.2011 (Several seen on a number of days).
Size: 12mm.

It certainly looks very much like an Haematopota. I guess they are as little bastards there as here.

Uniquely for a horsefly, this one didn't try to bite me... and, unless I'm mistaken that this is a female, she had an excuse to.
