Location: Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia.
Habitat: seasonally cut dry grass.
Date: 18.08.2011, but similar species seen through visit (August-November)

Size: 10-12mm, excluding proboscis.

Bears a passing resemblance to some species of Bombylius in the gallery, and Picker, Griffiths and Weaving's Australoechus, but can't seem to find any to match convincingly.

Still no takers? I thought its charisma made it appealing and its monobrow made it distinctive...

all i can say is that it appears to be Australoechus not Bombylius.
