Hello!

This mysterious fly was caught by Mr. Iiro Kakko in Eckerö (pitfall, 3.5.-2.6. 2011), which is the westernmost municipality of Finland in the archipelago.

I haven't any idea of the family. What strikes the eye is the form and coloration of the abdomen and the darkened wing with the apical part white.

Any ideas, please?

Kaj W. from Turku, Finland

Can you check against your Scandinavian Scathophagidae? To further assist us, a better view of the wing and the head (antennae, etc.) would helpfull.

Hello,

It is obviouslyfemale of Catharosia (Tachinidae).
We have C. pygmaea in Finland, but how the female is differentiated from C. flavicornis?
