Can anyone please help with this ID. Image date 1 October. Location South Central England, near Portsmouth.

Dear Peter,
My suggestion would be Tipula (Tipula) paludosa; females have the wings shorter than the abdomen; this seems to be case. To be sure, count the antennal segment, 14 in paludosa, 13 in all other members of Tipula subgenus (Tipula).
