I photographed this last April in woodland in Kent and I have a feeling it may be a Flower fly. Anyone care to confirm or otherwise?

Yes, I'd say it's a male of Anthomyiidae. (Non-British speakers use 'flower fly' to mean hoverflies (Syrphidae), but you clearly have a classical education. ;) ) I can't guess the genus from this photo. Have you any others?

Thank you, you have been most helpful. I'm afraid not. It was taken at such a high magnification that the others, where the focus was out, were "throw-outa!"

I also took this one and wondered if you could help with the ID? Many thanks in advance.

Best to start a new thread for each species.
