Wet woodland edge, yellowpan trap. Size 5mm approx
male
Medina luctuosa/separata
Maybe my photos are not clear enough to distinguish between these 2 species. :|

It is difficult to get decent pictures at high magnification.
As far as I can tell, it should be luctuosa.

luctuosa was also my decision when looking through a microscope, but I have no comparative material and this one was collected in water. Maybe Chris could post some photos of these two species on his new website;)

They're very tricky because of the very high magnifications needed to show the detail on the genitalia ... and you need a specimen where the genitalia are in *just* the right position for them to come out well in a photo. I will try but don't hold your breath - I can only go up to about 5x magnification and I am busy cleaning and drying my house after a minor flood ... a pipe burst in the loft ;)
PS: I think that you might be able to make it clearer by relaxing the specimen and folding the genitalia out a bit :)
