Here are a couple of Beris soldierflies – is it possible to confirm IDs? I reckon both could be Beris chalybata, although one looks broader than the other (they were taken at sites about two kilometres apart). Both would be decent records for my county, I think. Both images taken in Renfrewshire, Scotland, in May 2011. Thanks for your help.

I collected a specimen like the one in the top photo today and would very much like to know how to separate chalybata from morrisii

cheers,
Jeremy

Morrisii is brilliantly green, almost like a Lucilia. You cannot miss this, that is, if you are not wearing sunglasses ! Moreover, it is a summer species.

This is chalybata, I'd say. Most likely, the differences you noticed are due to sexual dimorphism (this is a female).
