Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Muscidae for ID, C Spain

Taken in the outskirts of Madrid, in a garden in Nov 2011.

I think it is Muscidae, but might be Anthomyiidae. I always have problems with some of these :(

I can see why you couldn't decide between the two families - it's actually a female Fannia ;) The strap-like parafrontal-facial band and the shape of the subcosta are good clues if you can't see the anal vein shapes, and the dorsal setae on the hind tibia can be useful confirmation.

(From the yellow on the sides of the abdomen I guess this could be F. canicularis)
