Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Pretty Tephritidae from Centaurea jacea

A colleague from the botanical section in the Museum of Natural History Luxembourg has given me last Friday some small flies that were rather by accident breed out of infructescences of Centaurea jacea collected the 26.07.11 in Frisange (Luxemburg near France).
I wanted to ask whether there might be further species than Urophora jaceana, looking all the same, to come into consideration. If necessary I could take photographs of the animals, but probably not until tomorrow.

As always I would be very greatful for any help.
Thank you in advance,

best regards,

Svenja Christian

Dear Svenja,

Considering the lack of faunistic data on Luxembourg in the Fauna Europaea database, I should be happy to have the pictures of those flies. Cent. jacea has 4 species of tephritids in the flower heads.

Hello Valery,

thank you very much already for your reply. I'll carry my cm cam at work and take pictures of them tomorrow. As they are conservtazed in Ethanol they won't move, so I hope that the results are going to be all right.

best regards,
Svenja

Dear Svenja:

What about publication a short note "The first record of Fruit Flies from Luxembourg"? e.g., in our Ukrainska Entomofaunistyka. Then I have a legal way to add it into "Fauna Europaea" database
