Hi,
This small midge was shy, and it sat in a dark place. So I got only few pics in bad quality. I would be grateful for a family name, as to me it is no Tipulid. It is a pity we cannot see the wing venation, but the wings are hairy. I hope for the midge experts!
Many thanks, Sundew

Crane fly (Tipulidae s. lat.), probably Limoniidae. V shaped suture in thorax, no ocelli visible, and probably with two anal veins. The antennae may be distinctive.

Dear John, I am impressed how many characters you recognize in these bad pics! I did not expect Limoniid wings to be thus hairy, though the (possible) Limoniid of http://www.dipter...d_id=42096 displays also fine hairs along the wing margin. Can you say more about the latter fly? Thanks in advance!
