Hi Graeme,

I saw this paper online and thought you would find it interesting if you hadn't seen it already...

Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia (CERRA)

Lovely fly - looks like the genus Rutilia ... I have the revision of it here but (as usual) I'd need the specimen to key it properly ;)

Yes, it is in Rutilia (s.l.), difficult genus, review by Crosskey in the 1970's but not all my material fits.

Steve I was not aware of that pdf, thanks for pointing it out.
Thanks Chris and Zeegers. The fly is very rare. I'm lucky if I spot one a year, so of course I kill it.

Can somebody tell me what is the subfamily for Rutilia?

I'm fairly sure that they are a very unusual-looking Dexiinae :)
