Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Beautiful, but what is it ?

I originally thought Syrphidae, then Stratomyidae but I'm not sure it is from either of these groups ? If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be pleased :-)

Looks like you hit the nail on the head with your second guess - Stratiomyidae ;)

Thanks guys, Sargus bipunctatus wasmy original guess but the only images I could find showed a very tapered tip to the abdomen, males I guess.
