Sardinia, Tortoli, 22nd June 2011. Altitude 25m.
Stony riverbed, male and female on flowering herbs. Male 14mm, female 13mm.

This delicate tabanid is Pangonius striatus, a species considered endemic to Sardinia. Note the small dusted face, dark femora, stripes on the thorax, and eyes meeting for a long distance in the male. Also relatively short proboscis

PS is anyone able to identify the plant, is it Mintho aquatica?
