Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Unknown > Lauxaniidae, Minettia fasciata species-group

Photograph taken in July 2011, South East England, in-land rural/horticultural/agricultural environment.

I would appreciate an ID as far as possible (Family would be a great start!) and any advice as to what would have been needed to make a better id (wings, mesonotum, fly-in-hand etc)

These posts are inspired a new lens purchase (!) rather than a knowledge of Diptera, and I have made no effort to ID this for myself. I don't know whether this lack of effort on my part is acceptable in this forum, so please tell me if I should stop spamming you all with dull flies!

Thanks! I've edited the title of the thread in line with this (I believe this is the correct thing to do?)

I commented that it was possibly Minettia, but was not sure and removed my message. Apparantly, I'm right too, sometimes... :)
