Hi,
This dark
Rhagio I saw in Austria, Tyrol, Niederthai (1.500 m) in last August. The key led me to
R. cingulatus. As photos of this species are lacking in the gallery, I cannot get a comparison. Help is greatly appreciated!
Many thanks, Sundew

Szilady in Tierwelt Deutschlands gives 2 species with dark wings in the Alps: R. cingulatus and R. fuscipennis. The latter is still accepted as valid in the catalogue of pal. diptera. According to Szilady, I would identify your specimen as R. fuscipennis, which occurs in Austria. The abdomen is dark with yellow posterior margins on each segment. The palps should be black, may be the central photo reveals that in magnification.

This was straight from the horse's mouth - thank you, dear Mark, creator of most valuable internet keys! (And I am unable to pick the right species out of them... :S) The abdomen colour fits
R. fuscipennis much better, of course. I have no clear pic of the palpi, but I reckon your ID is sure enough to make the photos ready for the gallery!
