I believe this is Tachinidae. Is genera possible?
Malaise trap. Townsville, Queensland.

There are spines on the underside of the wing on R3+4
and along the costa.

Very interesting ... if it was in Europe then I would be checking it against
Halidaya but I'm sure you have other alternatives. If you send anything to me I'll run them through the generic key though :)

Thanks Chris. No I don't have any idea as to an ID. That one has gone off to BOLD, but if I get another I'll put it aside for you.
Cheers, Graeme

Thanks Graeme - it certainly looks very identifiable so if you do get another then I'm fairly certain that we can get a name for it. The huge eyes, hemispherical-shaped head and the elongate, slightly laterally flattened abdomen all reminded me of
Halidaya (a very rare tachinid in Europe).
I have had a quick look at Crosskey's "Conspectus" and you do indeed have some species of
Halydaia (a synonym of
Halidaya) so I might be correct :) They are:
mackerrasi,
norrisi &
rufiventris.
