Here is a nice photo of a tephritid, from Stephane Brule - can anyone suggest a genus perhaps? :)

Anastrepha sp.
Only genus ID is possible from pictures of this genus.

Thanks again - it looks a very striking genus - are they identifiable with specimens or is it the usual neotropical problem of no good literature, poor taxonomy and too many undescribed species? :)

Not at all:
Al Norrbom (USDA SEL c/o Smithsonian) has already published very comprehensive revisions most if not all species group of this large genus. As commonly in Tephritidae, species are poorly or non- identifiable from males or undissected females: apart from wing and body pattern, fine structures of the ovipositor are species-specific. However, I am not that deep in it to guess the species group from the pic.

That's nice to hear ... I am used to the tachinids and that's a different story, all together ;)
