Hi,

I can't find anything like it. 15th June, my garden near Lincoln UK.

I only got two shots.

Thank you Paul, srangely I looked at Chyliza but didn't recognise it!

I've searched out the species we have, according to the key this should be Chyliza nova. Does anyone agree?

I'd rather say C. leptogaster.

Thank you Stephane, could you tell me why you think it's C. leptogaster?

The key mentions C. leptogaster as having a darker frons and females "the upper side of the humeri usually entirely black" where C. nova has a more orange frons and the female has "at least the upper side of the humeri usually entirely yellow."

Mine is a female I think?

I think it's a female, but difficult to be sure. Anyway : humeri (shoulders) are entirely black, and the frons is black to a great extent, isn't it ?

Woops, I was looking at the name under the photos on the pdf! The names are above the photos, so that would fit C. leptogaster. :S

The humeri I assumed to be the femur, as the humerous bone is between the shoulder and elbow as to speak but for flies it's maybe different! ;)
