21/06/2011, my garden, Kapellen, Belgium. Before I send some specimens to dr. Pollet, I would like to make sure these are dolichopodids. Thanks in advance!

Dear Jeroen,

it's hard to see, but this might be a male specimen and if it is, then you are most probably dealing with M. truncorum (which has a very slender hypopygium that is folded underneath the abdomen). But again, it's hard to tell and if I am wrong, then obviously Stefan made the correct diagnosis.

Cheers,
Marc

Dear Marc

Thank you for your reply. The specimens are coming to you anyway, so in the end we'll know who was right.
