Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tabanus autumnalis?

Hi everyone,

is it possible to identify this Tabanus ? For me it looks like a Tabanus autumnalis.

Found: Germany, Lower Saxony, Göttingen, sun-bathing on aroad through beech forrest, 300msm, 09.06.2011

Has your animal one eyeband or my ipression is influenced by light?

Hi Libor,

this fly didn't have any eyebands, only brownish eyes. Here is a slightly different angle.

No eyeband, hmmm. What about body length? T. autumnalis belongs among species with upper facets 4x bigger than lower ones. Not your case... So maybe T. bovinus.

Hello Libor,

oh sorry, I forgot to mention the body length, that was ca. 15mm. So probably not T. bovinus. It seems, that the Tabanidae is also a difficult group for foto ID.
