Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Rhinophoridae?

8-mm, Clitheroe UK, 11 June 2011

This male from today shares several features with last week's Phyto discrepans. Could it be a rather teneral P. melanocephala? The subscutellum bulges a bit (like the other one).

Whatever it is, it is certainly NOT Ph. melanocephala.

I do agree it looks like discrepans.
However, since it is so teneral, we might be fooled here.

I have compared the genitalia with last week's fly and they do seem the same. This one:

I guess the reasons I thought they were different (width of frons, differences in face, little appendix on M, size) can all be put down to a combination of better nutrition and the teneral state. Should I now be confident this is also Ph. discrepans?
