Can anyone ID this scathophagid which looks different to others I've seen (though S. stercoraria does seem rather variable so maybe that's what is is?).
4.5.11 c8mm hunting on streamsde vegetation, Wiltshire, UK.

Is it really Scathophagidae?? I thought it is Sciomyzidae!!! :o

Many thanks Sara, I think you're probably right, and the habitat is just right for a "marsh fly" - lurking near a stream where they might find snail hosts. Sciomyzidae is not a family I know at all and the "look" and postures they took up looked very "scathophagid" to my untrained eyes, but on checking the gallery, this looks right for a sciomyzid, maybe a Tetanocera sp. Maybe someone who knows this group can confirm / help identify and I'll update the thread heading.
