Hi,

found this one yesterday. I hope it this time looks more like a Lypha? Espoo, southern Finland.

greetings, Jussi

Thanks! I can now get more seriously into these things as i have got a key from a very helpful and generous source. Different features become also more distinctive between species as you pay more time looking at them.

I have always found Lypha dubia to be a fairly awkward tachinid to identify with a high degree of confidence ... until you have seen lots of them. They are very anonymous but under a microscope they are pretty easy to confirm from the equal-sized flaps on the metathoracic spiracle combined with a large pteropleural bristle. I think only Lypha and Lydina have this combination in Europe (belonging to the tribe Polideini) ... though I am willing to be corrected :D
