Suspect these are male and female of the same species. Both taken on my car a few days ago - South coast UK
Thanks

The male is Bibio johannis
The females are very difficult from picture,
but if you say it is the same species,
it is Bibio johannis :D

They are fairly common at the moment ... the first flush of Bibio, before the next round of
B.marci and
B.anglicus :)

They shout be dominant in presence these days.
B. lanigerus, which is 1 week later on the average, is restricted to sandy soils (we don't have chalk, so not sure about that),

B.lanigerus has always been a bit scarce around me (I have chalk) but I did find 2 stuck to my car windscreen after a long journey a few years ago :D
