My guess is a male Dolichopodinae, but I don't see enough bristles on the hind basitarsus for
Dolichopus.

Dear John,
I confirm that you are dealing with a Gymnopternus species: the male specimen has no dorsal bristles on the metatarsus of the hind leg (as you noticed), and the R4+5 and M1+2 veins are parallel. Gymnopternus is a speciose genus in the Nearctic (see Pollet et al., 2004; Brooks et al., 2005).
