Hello,
I have taken this photo in May in the north of Germany (Schleswig-Holstein). Unfortunately I have only this image and I even do not know the length of the fly. I saw some photos in the internet and I think the species could be Hydrophoria lancifer. Is there anybody who could confirm this or correct it? Thanks very much, Frank

Female of H.lancifer and H.ruralis are very simular.
Mainly difference is the lenght of the prealar (longer in H.lancifer)
On your photo it seems to be as long as posterior notopleural.....so H.lancifer (but with a little bit of doubt;) )

Hello,
I show you an enlargement, can you see on this image, if it is H.lancifer or H.ruralis? Thank you, Frank
