Fly landed on my foot while we were eating outside a house in Massachusets, USA. I think
Musca domestica. It is not
Stomoxys calcitrans -- no long, hard beak. (I once photographed the latter species on my leg not realizing it was a biter until I saw the blood.)
Striped thorax, pale brown abdomen, and shape of M vein point towards a common house fly.
