Is it possible to ID this fly...?

I'm going to make a guess and say Lypha dubia ... but it is a bit of a guess - time of year, mottled dusting, brown base colour etc. If we could see the pteropleural bristle and metathoracic spiracle then we would know for sure :D

Also, can you try to make each title/subject different? There are just a few threads called "Tachinidae" at the moment and in the "New Posts" screen they all look the same now ;)

Well, if Theo thinks it is Phorocera obscura then I would go along with that. I think I was just confused because the abdomen isn't quite as elongated as I am used to (I don't see many) and I think I am used to the image of males, which have a slightly more distinctive shape :)

Yes it is and given the better view on the antennae, I still think it is Phorocera obscura
