Yup - any identification of a
Siphona from a photograph is an educated guess, at the very best :)
For instance, this has median marginals on tergite 1+2 so that limits it to a few species (the commonest is
geniculata) but that isn't really a good basis on which to make an identification ;)

all very true, and still, given time of year I bet my **** this is a female geniculata.
But as Chris said, no sound basis for identification

Theo, it's closer to a geniculata than to nothing, so we will use that fact. I see that you also have knowledge about Bibionidae, which to my idea is also a unidentifiable group. I wll search some and would appreciate if you can help me, OK..? After work ofcourse.. ;)
