I am refloating this because I cannot find anyone to identify it. Could it possibly be a very poorly maked scolopaceus? It was originally suggested notatus but the femora are wrong. The conversation below with Theo was as a result of that suggestion.....

so, it can't be notatus.

In these cases, it is often vitripennis, which can have very slight shading along crossveins and at wingtip only.

Thanks for your comment Theo. I will have to get this insect followed up as vitripennis is not British as far as I know.
