Possibly a fresh male specimen of
Palloptera scutellata. Was there
Juncus effusus available at the collecting site?

Thanks Jan! You are right, there really were Juncus in the spot, but don't know the species.

Hello Rui,
According to Fauna Europaea and "Catálogo de los Diptera de España, Portugal y Andorra (Insecta)" (2002) this species has not been recorded from Portugal yet.
In the Netherlands this species can be easily collected by sweeping with your net through
Juncus. As far as we know the males are only found at the end of the year and the females hibernate and lay there eggs the next year.
