Arista is plumose. It isn't quite in focus but if you look closely you can see it.

At first sight, i would say Hydrophoria lancifer...
But there seems to be a very simular species H.diabata.
This species has the epandrium longer than high and sides distinctly shining and according to Hennig, the tibia are more darkened in distal third..
The tibia at your species seems very dark and epandrium very shining..(could be from the flash?)
So i have a little doubt..
But i don't know if H.diabata has ever been found in Nearctic region?
Also there whas a mention about a possibility that H.diabata could be a variation within H.lancifer (Hennig)
Genital examination is needed in this case...

Are you confident in genus? If so what features are sufficient to ID as
Hydrophoria?
Maybe there's a review of the genus in Griffiths'
Flies of the Nearctic Region.
