Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Winter Gnat: Trichocera major?

Hi all,

I collected an un-banded male Trichocerid two days ago, and am wondering which of the 12 UK species it is.

To me, the styles appear quite long and slightly on the curvy-side ('sinuous', says the key), the bridge is complete and the spines of the paramere are short.

Body: c5.2mm
Wing: c6mm
Habitat: Hedgerow near fields

Thank you.

Take care,

Jason

Sorry Jason I cannot help you but it would be nice to see the whole winter crane fly too...

Hi Miriam!

Well, there's nothing much to see with these - hence the need for closely examining his genitals. They offer several features which are unique in series, and retention gives you the benefit of later comparison of material as well as a way of backing-up IDs.
